Department of Dravya Guna

Dravya Guna (herbs) form the back bone of treating a patient. This department deals with herbs, their uses etc. Apart from this the basic principles related to the drugs-like the mode of action, end-product, etc. is also dealt.

It is similar to the modern Pharmacology. Around 100 drugs are taught in detail and also 120 drugs are summarized. Students are also taught how to identify the commonly available drugs accordingly to modern Morphology (Botany).

The department consists of charts based on basic principles of Dravya Guna, pictures of medicinal plants and also wet specimen of herbs. There is a spacious lab for students to conduct practicals. The departmental library consists of Reference books for students.

Our Objective

  • Steps to save endangered plant species.
  • To promote in situ and ex situ conservation of medicinal plant diversity, including rare species.
  • Conservation of rare medicinal plants which are under the threat of extinction.
  • Creating awareness on the importance of medicinal plants within the society.
